EcoAmigos was founded in 1999 in the town of Mulegé (Baja Calfornia Sur, Mexico) by high school students concerned about the environment in general and more specifically about local problems in their own community. In 2000, EcoAmigos joined Grupo Tortuguero, a network of national and international grassroots organizations, in the campaign to protect Baja Calfornia´s five endangered sea turtle species. Members of EcoAmigos include school children, teachers, parents, fishermen and other community members.
